I developed my passion for health while studying Exercise Science at Winthrop University in South Carolina. Subsequently, I obtained certification as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports & Medicine.
After working with hundreds of women while personal training at Orangetheory Fitness and The YMCA, and listening to their struggles and complaints about their doctors, I quickly learned that exercise alone is not the solution for weight loss.
This marked the beginning of my exploration into Functional Medicine and Women's Health. By studying at Pacific Rim College and The Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I gained knowledge in women's hormones, gut health, menopause, autoimmune diseases, thyroid disorders, and more. This allowed me to adopt a Holistic or Functional approach that focuses on addressing the underlying cause of your condition rather than just treating the symptoms. This approach aims to promote healing both internally and externally.
I conducted a soft launch of Tristen Menslage Coaching and the ReDefine You Program in early 2019, targeting a select group of women who were interested in being part of my case study. The results they achieved were beyond their expectations. As word spread, their friends and family members began reaching out to me, inspired by the visible results and seeking lasting transformation. By the end of 2019, I fully launched the program to all women who would be a good fit.
Fast forward to 2024, we have assisted over 470 women in achieving various health goals. I am also pursuing my IFNCP Board Credential as we speak. Our program has effectively helped women lose weight, balance hormones, reduce gut inflammation, regulate stress levels, and regain energy and confidence. We aim to continue this journey for many more years.
In 2018, my journey to transform my health and life kicked off. Back then, I was battling not only the physical weight I had gained but also the heavy burden of extreme depression, anxiety, and a history of eating disorders. It was like my closet was a reflection of my struggles – filled with clothes that no longer fit, reminding me of the changes I'd been through.
I threw myself into various weight loss methods, trying everything from weight watchers to supplements and fitness programs like BeachBody. But here's the twist – my mind wasn't in the right place for this battle. Instead of solely focusing on shedding pounds, I realized it was time to mend my mental state first. My psychiatrist prescribed a cocktail of five medications, which surprisingly became my motivation to embark on a holistic journey to reconnect with my true self.
Fast forward a year, and I managed to free myself from all those medications, ready to tackle my weight loss challenge with a renewed spirit. From June to September, I shed the 30 pounds I had gained and finally bid adieu to those over-sized clothes that had become a pricey reminder of my struggles.
This profound transformation paved the way for me to help women rebuild their confidence and rediscover themselves. And that's how the ReDefine You Program was born – an endeavor aimed at addressing the concerns and hurdles women face in their lives. Years passed, and I kept absorbing the stories of countless women, learning from their struggles to make sure my program was a comprehensive solution.
Now, let's fast forward again to 2021, when I received life-changing news – I was going to be a mother! But my past haunted me. With a history of eating disorders and body image issues, I dreaded how my body would react to the pregnancy journey. Over those nine months, I embraced a 70-pound weight gain – a testimony to the miracle growing within me.
And then came the unexpected twist – my delivery didn't go as planned. Days in the ICU, battling complications, it was far from easy. Recovery wasn't a walk in the park either. A C-section marked my journey, and while my physical scars healed remarkably, the emotional ones took more time. Postpartum depression and the trauma of the delivery sent me on an emotional rollercoaster, and let's not forget those wild postpartum hormones – a "category 5 shit storm" as I fondly call it. In 2022, with determination as my guide, I once again faced the challenge of losing weight and reclaiming my health. Lucky for me I knew exactly how to approach it this time. By June, I had surpassed my pre-pregnancy weight, shedding 40 pounds. But this time, I had new badges of honor – stretch marks and extra skin, souvenirs from the incredible journey of creating life. My hormones still have their quirks, and I am dealing with the aftermath of pregnancy on my abdominal muscles, but hey, it is a work in progress.
Now, let's jump to the present. I see busy women who know the struggle all too well. They juggle careers, motherhood, and their own well-being, battling weight issues, hormonal imbalances, and more.
It's in these shared experiences that I find my strength to connect. The casual conversations, the relatable anecdotes, the friendly humor – they're all my allies in this quest to empower these incredible women. So, if you've ever stood in oversized clothes, faced down a "shit storm" of emotions, or juggled life's responsibilities, know that you're not alone. Together, we redefine what's possible and embrace the journey of becoming our strongest selves.
